Gabriel Armoury

Who are we ?

We are a small close-knit team at your service. And each one of us has its own speciality.

Gabriel Armoury

Gabriel :

Gabriel shares its time between his PhD thesis (Appearance of modern tax in late Middle Age) the exhibition «ca.1000-1500 Five centuries of armours» he has set up for Beaugency castle, and of course the castle-museum of Meung sur Loire where he introduces visitors to the knightly art of combat... and his workshop nearby the castle !

Speciality : typology of XV century armours : regional styles and local particularities.

Love : gothic decoration, fluting, and delicate file work on tiny “fleur de lys”, stylised heraldic lilies, on the edges of plates.

Hate : heavy hammer work unless if the piece is small or if it’s about making gothic fluting ;-)

Thomas :

There is nothing better than experience. So, to make sure that the result meets the expectation of our customers, all our “Elite” armour and some key parts of our “Veteran” harness are made by Thomas : the most talented master armourer I have ever met. He is not only a sincere friend, but also a patient and caring teacher, who I greatly esteem and try to imitate as best as I can.

Nathalie et Sébastien :

Nathalie and Sebastian are my dear brother and sister who have believe in me and frequently come to help me on camps or at Pontoise medieval market. Sebastian is a talented fencer and has been my partner in all our tournaments abroad for many years. He is our official “armour tester” and every fight he wins, wearing one of our armours, is a new opportunity for us to improve our models. Nathalie almost doesn’t do any other medieval than Pontoise. But during these historical markets she takes care of the “gambeson and recruit items” stand with a communicative energy and cheerfulness. She is the great keeper of the cashbox and she never hesitate to shorten me when I spend too much time on an historical explanation. ;-)
