Gabriel Armoury

Haubergeon. 9mm flat rings, round rivets. Black.

New

To protect the weak spots of the armour, nothing is better than a good haubergeon worn underneath. Of course this solution is heavier than a skirt + voiders but it also offers better protection. Quatrocento Italian knights and condotieres were often so cautious that they wore an haubergeon AND a skirt of mail under their harnesses !

The haubergeon was also much appreciated by ordinary soldiers. For many of them the haubergeon was their only protection. But it could also be worn under a brigandine or under a padded jack or under an half cuirass to efficiently increase ones protection. A billman wearing a good kettle hat, a haubergeon and a breastplate, for example, could reasonably hope to survive his first battle, even in first line.

Our haubergeons are made of properly riveted mail like all real medieval originals. Their strong 9mm 17G rings make them ideal for heavy fighting and competitive “Pas d’Armes”.

The word “chainmail” is a modern neologism. Our medieval ancestors simply use the word “mail” or “maille” ;)
